Join us as we explore the concept of gender and gender dysphoria. Learn to recognize the difference between Gender Identity Disorder and Gender Dysphoria, identify the diagnostic criteria as applicable to the DSM-5, define key practice approaches to best assist clients and their families experiencing gender dysphoria, and identify ethical challenges relating to treating Gender Dysphoria.

Join us as we explore aspects of gender transition and develop a tool to support each client, and their families, navigate "coming out".

Treating Gender Dysphoria - Gender Affirming Treatments

People who identify as transgender may seek any one of a number of gender affirming interventions, including hormone therapy, surgery, facial hair removal, interventions for the modification of speech and communication, and behavioral adaptations such as genital tucking or packing, or chest binding (Center of Excellence for Transgender Health, 2017).  Join us as we explore each of these treatments and how you can support clients and families during this process.

 

Treating Gender Dysphoria - Understanding Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

Understanding hormone replacement therapy (HRT) as an evidence-based treatment for gender dysphoria is essential to supporting transgender clients. But, finding accurate information without becoming overwhelmed is difficult! Join us as we explore hormone treatment for individuals who use, or plan to use, HRT to treat gender dysphoria.
